Google is constantly enhancing its productivity apps by incorporating its advanced AI models into the Gemini features.
The tech giant recently unveiled several updates to its Workspace products, including the introduction of Audio Overviews and improved methods for managing meetings.
Audio Overviews, initially introduced in Google’s popular NotebookLM, enable users to create podcasts on topics of their choice. Now, with Gemini, individuals can generate audio files based on uploaded documents and slides. They can also produce audio summaries within in-depth research reports. These podcast-style audio files are downloadable and feature voices that focus solely on the provided documents.

According to Google, some individuals prefer learning through listening, where information is presented in a conversational format.
Google also introduced Canvas in Gemini, allowing users to create drafts and refine text or code using the Gemini model. Canvas aids in generating, optimizing, and previewing code. These documents can be shared with Google Docs.
Enhanced Calendar Features
Google has streamlined the process of adding events and meetings to calendars. Gemini can detect event details within emails and prompt users to add them to their calendar. The model also highlights emails containing potential appointments that users may have missed.
Similar features are offered by plugins like Boomerang, displaying appointments above the subject line. The Gemini-powered calendar feature opens a chat window alerting users of upcoming events.
Utilizing AI models to extract data or events from emails has become a key feature of enterprise AI assistants. Companies like Microsoft and startups like Martin AI have AI assistants managing calendars, emails, and to-do lists.
Integrating Generative AI with Productivity
Last year, Google introduced Gemini chat to Workspace, integrating the standalone chat platform with Gmail, Google Docs, and Calendars. This move brings Google closer to Microsoft’s Copilot, which incorporates AI models into its productivity platforms.
Businesses are increasingly incorporating AI features into the workplace. By providing easy access to tools like Gemini within Gmail and utilizing AI models for research, companies may witness higher rates of AI adoption among employees.
