Scale AI’s recent partnership with Meta has sparked concerns among its clients.

Concerns Arise Over Meta’s Investment in Scale AI

According to a report by Reuters, Google had initially planned to invest $200 million in Scale AI this year. However, in light of Meta’s involvement, Google is now reconsidering its relationship with the startup. Microsoft is also rumored to be reassessing its ties with Scale AI, and OpenAI had already made a similar decision some time ago, although they have assured that they will continue collaborating with Scale as one of their many service providers.

Scale AI’s Client Base and Services

Scale AI caters to a diverse clientele, including self-driving car companies and government entities. Nevertheless, Reuters highlights that the bulk of Scale AI’s customers are generative AI firms looking to leverage the expertise of specialized workers for data annotation to enhance their models.

Reassurances from Scale AI and Meta

While Google and Scale AI declined to comment on the situation, a Scale AI spokesperson assured TechCrunch that the company’s operations remain robust. They emphasized that Scale AI will continue to function independently, prioritizing the protection of their clients’ data.

Earlier reports indicated that Meta acquired a 49% stake in Scale AI for $14.3 billion, with Scale AI’s CEO, Alexandr Wang, set to spearhead Meta’s initiatives in advancing “superintelligence.”
