Hyphen AI, a cutting-edge startup hailing from Seattle, has successfully raised $5 million in a seed funding round led by Unlock Venture Partners. The company’s innovative product, Hyphen Deploy, is revolutionizing the way developers deploy cloud applications by utilizing generative AI to automate complex DevOps processes.
The platform aims to simplify the setup of cloud infrastructure by allowing developers to describe the desired functionalities of their app in natural language. By replacing traditional tools like YAML files, Dockerfiles, and Terraform modules with intuitive prompts and business rules, Hyphen Deploy enables developers to focus on the goals of their services, such as latency, scale, or compliance, while the platform takes care of generating production-ready cloud infrastructure across major providers like AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, and Cloudflare.
CEO and founder of Hyphen AI, Jared Wray, expressed that the current process of infrastructure automation is time-consuming and labor-intensive, taking weeks to set up and configure, with ongoing maintenance required. However, with Hyphen Deploy, this process is significantly streamlined, reducing it to mere minutes.
Prior to founding Hyphen AI, Wray established Tier 3, an enterprise cloud startup in the Seattle area that was later acquired by CenturyLink. With a background in executive roles at CenturyLink, iStreamPlanet, and Palmetto, Wray brings a wealth of experience to the table in the realm of cloud technology and infrastructure automation.
Hyphen AI is part of a growing trend in the tech industry, with startups like Pulumi also utilizing generative AI to automate infrastructure tasks. Unlock Ventures partner Andy Liu emphasized the need for a developer-centric operations platform, stating that “Deploy returns software development to the promise of developers leading the way with no infrastructure overhead, just focus on code.”
While Wray did not disclose specific revenue figures, he mentioned that customers have been utilizing the platform for the past five months. Hyphen AI currently has a team of 10 employees, including Jim Newkirk, who serves as a fractional COO and brings his expertise from previous roles at CenturyLink and Tier3.
