Vertiv Partners with NVIDIA and iGenius for Revolutionary AI Supercomputer Deployment
Vertiv has recently announced a groundbreaking collaboration with NVIDIA and renowned AI pioneer iGenius to introduce Colosseum, one of the largest NVIDIA DGX AI supercomputers in the world featuring NVIDIA Grace Blackwell Superchips. This cutting-edge project is scheduled for deployment in Italy in 2025 and is poised to redefine the digital landscape with a unique sovereign AI data center specifically designed for regulated workloads.
Colosseum is specifically tailored to meet the demands of highly regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, and public administration. The project aims to combine unparalleled computational power, energy efficiency, and data sovereignty while adhering to strict data security protocols.
Strategic Positioning and Key Features
Colosseum, which will be a NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, is the latest result of a longstanding partnership between Vertiv and NVIDIA. Positioned strategically in southern Italy, this project is intended to address the specific requirements of regional governments, marking a significant milestone in Europe’s AI landscape.
Uljan Sharka, CEO of iGenius, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “Harnessing the power of NVIDIA’s cutting-edge accelerated computing and Vertiv’s innovative infrastructure expertise, Colosseum stands as a testament to the transformative potential of sovereign AI. We’re demonstrating how modular systems and software-specific infrastructure enable a new era of mission-critical AI.”
Efficient Design and Scalability
Colosseum is a result of combining Vertiv’s infrastructure management expertise with NVIDIA accelerated computing and the NVIDIA Omniverse Blueprint for AI factory design and operations. The deployment will leverage Vertiv’s 360AI reference architecture infrastructure platform for data center power and cooling, specifically designed for the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72. This modular and scalable system positions iGenius to deploy one of the fastest hyperscale AI supercomputers in the world, supporting sovereign AI.
Furthermore, Vertiv has expanded its reference design library on its AI Hub with the co-developed data center power and cooling design for NVIDIA GB300 NVL72. By staying one step ahead in GPU technology, Vertiv enables customers to plan infrastructure in advance, with deployment-ready designs that anticipate increased rack power densities and offer repeatable templates for AI factories at scale.
Real-time Simulation and Collaboration
Colosseum was co-designed as a physically accurate digital twin developed with NVIDIA Omniverse technologies, enabling real-time collaboration between Vertiv, iGenius, and NVIDIA. This approach allows for accelerated system-level decisions and compresses the design-to-deploy cycle significantly. The Omniverse Blueprint offers real-time simulations, enabling engineers to test and refine designs instantly, reducing simulation times from months to hours.
Moreover, Vertiv’s manufacturing and factory integration processes reduce deployment time by up to 50% compared to traditional data center builds, enhancing efficiency and speed of deployment.
Advanced Data Center Solutions
Vertiv’s AI-ready prefabricated modular data center solution is designed to meet the evolving needs of AI factories. It includes power, cooling, management, monitoring, service, and maintenance offerings, supporting up to 132kW/rack initially, with the ability to scale up for future designs. This innovative approach offers exceptional scalability and energy efficiency, transforming the way data centers are built and deployed.
Colosseum will leverage NVIDIA Mission Control for data center operations and orchestration and Vertiv™ Unify for simplified building management for AI factories. Vertiv Unify enables real-time orchestration across power, cooling, and compute, digital twin synchronization for closed-loop optimization, and AI-ready capabilities that support autonomous decision-making.
Setting the Standard for AI Factories
Colosseum serves as a template for scalable, repeatable, sovereign AI factories, combining cloud-scale density, local data control, and modular deployment. This project signals a new era of AI, where secure, fast, compliant, and distributed inference is key. It is designed to be a reference point for future projects globally, with Vertiv and NVIDIA committed to supporting future platform advancements.
This collaboration between Vertiv, NVIDIA, and iGenius is paving the way for the future of sovereign AI, setting new standards for efficiency, scalability, and innovation in the AI landscape.
