Internet Backyard has recently announced a significant milestone by raising $4.5 million in a pre-seed round led by Basis Set Ventures. The startup, founded only two months ago, is focused on creating billing software for data centers and GPU providers. This innovative company aims to revolutionize the financial infrastructure within the AI compute economy by automating the order-to-cash process and replacing manual tasks with efficient solutions.
The company’s primary product, gnomos, is a comprehensive platform designed to assist data center operators and their clients in tracking and billing for GPU and infrastructure usage. Internet Backyard plans to monetize its services by taking a small percentage of the recovered invoice income, along with fees from routed payment flow and data licensing. Additionally, the startup has a long-term vision of becoming a data aggregation layer for industry benchmarks and performance metrics.
Aside from Basis Set Ventures, other investors in this funding round include Crucible Capital, Maple VC, Operator Collective, Breakers based in Seattle, and notable angels such as Jay Adelson, Geordie Rose, and Ian Crosby. The company, currently consisting of a 5-person team, is spearheaded by CEO Mai Trinh, and CTO Gabriel Ravacci. Mai Trinh previously served as a technical project manager at Sanctuary AI, while Gabriel Ravacci worked on next-generation AI accelerators at AMD. Although the startup originated in Vancouver, it is in the process of relocating to San Francisco.
