In a recent decision, Wiltshire Council has given the green light to Ark Data Centres’ new facility at the Spring Park campus, despite facing over 1,100 objections from the public. Concerns were raised regarding flooding, noise, and the height of the building, but the council has assured that mitigation measures will be implemented to address these issues.
The approved development includes an 18.7-metre-tall data hall, enhanced security infrastructure, new roads, and modifications to public rights of way. While objections focused on flood risks, noise pollution, and the visual impact of the building, the council has emphasized the importance of balancing local concerns with strategic planning requirements.
Despite the council’s approval, the project will be subject to various planning conditions, including detailed assessments of drainage and local transport impacts. Ark Data Centres views this new facility as a strategic investment in the region, supporting 87 jobs. However, the scale of local opposition suggests that enforcing the agreed conditions, particularly regarding drainage and environmental safeguards, will be crucial in gaining community satisfaction.
