Thinking Machines Lab, an AI startup led by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, has experienced a significant change as one of its co-founders departs for Meta.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, AI researcher Andrew Tulloch announced his decision to leave the company in a message to employees. Tulloch’s departure was confirmed by a spokesperson from Thinking Machines Lab, who mentioned that he chose to pursue a different path for personal reasons.
Earlier this year, there were reports that Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, made efforts to acquire Thinking Machines Lab but was unsuccessful. Instead, he allegedly attempted to entice Tulloch with a compensation package that could have been valued at up to $1.5 billion over several years. Tulloch, who previously worked at OpenAI and Facebook’s AI Research Group, ultimately decided to join Meta.
