In a landmark move, Microsoft has officially launched its first cloud region in Malaysia, named Malaysia West, located in Greater Kuala Lumpur. The region features three availability zones and offers a wide range of cloud services to cater to local data storage needs.
This development enables Malaysian organizations to leverage Microsoft’s services like Azure and Microsoft 365, along with tools for computing, storage, cybersecurity, and data analytics. The establishment of this cloud region is set to enhance performance and reduce latency for users in the country, aligning with the government’s digital transformation goals.
Moreover, Microsoft’s initiatives in Malaysia extend beyond the cloud region, with plans in place to support local AI development through programs like BINA AI Malaysia and the National AI Innovation Centre. Additionally, the company aims to train 800,000 Malaysians in AI-related skills by 2025, in collaboration with various local training providers and organizations.
