Revitalizing Wythenshawe: Mike Kane MP Visits MCR2 Data Centre

Manchester: Mike Kane MP, representing Wythenshawe and Sale East, recently took a tour of the newly constructed MCR2 data centre in Manchester, marking the beginning of a massive £500 million regeneration plan for the area. This state-of-the-art infrastructure development is set to have a transformative impact on the local community and business landscape.

During his visit, Mike Kane expressed his excitement about the potential of MCR2 to support local businesses and drive economic growth in the region. The project’s construction prioritized the use of local contractors to stimulate the economy while also minimizing its environmental footprint.

One of the key highlights of MCR2 is its eco-friendly approach to operations. The facility underwent a voluntary carbon impact assessment, with sustainability at the forefront of its design. Innovative strategies such as efficient free cooling systems, heat exchange technology for local heating initiatives, and the use of eco-friendly Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) in backup generators showcase MCR2’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

With a remarkable Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.25, MCR2 offers cutting-edge data halls designed to cater to a wide range of clients, from small and medium-sized enterprises to large corporations. The facility’s robust security measures, including police-linked on-site facilities, ensure the utmost protection and connectivity for businesses operating within the premises.

Matt Edgley, the COO of Datum Datacentres, emphasized the broader impact of MCR2 on Wythenshawe’s revitalization and Manchester’s growth as a tech hub. The completion of this project signifies a significant milestone in sustainable development, paving the way for new growth opportunities for businesses both locally and nationally.

As MCR2 officially launches in June, industry leaders like Jon Healy, Managing Director EMEA at Salute, recognize the positive regional impact of this venture. The data centre is poised to act as a catalyst for economic growth and business attraction in the area, solidifying its position as a key player in Manchester’s tech industry expansion.

By prioritizing sustainability, innovation, and community development, MCR2 sets a new standard for infrastructure projects and showcases the potential for growth and prosperity in the region.
