Enhancing Visibility
Upon arriving at the festival on a bright and sunny day, I was concerned about screen visibility. However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL impressed with its upgraded peak brightness of 3300 nits, ensuring excellent visibility in various lighting conditions. The 6.8-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate set the stage for a great festival experience.
Durable Design
Camping at a music festival puts a phone through unique challenges, including durability and exposure to elements. The Pixel 10 Pro XL’s durable aluminum build, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and robust case made it feel nearly indestructible. It withstood the festival environment, including dust and potential water exposure, thanks to its IP68 rating.
Long-Lasting Battery
The Pixel 10 Pro XL’s battery life was put to the test during the festival, and it delivered. Despite limited access to charging, the phone lasted through the weekend with regular usage, showcasing its endurance. With features like high brightness, data usage, and a 120Hz refresh rate enabled, the battery performance was commendable.
Photography Experience
The Pixel 10 Pro XL’s camera features, including Camera Coach, offered valuable insights for photography enthusiasts. The Camera Coach feature provided suggestions for improving photos, resulting in professional-quality images. The phone excelled in low-light photography, especially with its Night Sight mode, capturing clear and crisp images even in dark environments.
Nighttime Photography
The Pixel 10 Pro XL’s low-light capabilities shone during nighttime performances at the festival. The Night Sight feature enhanced photos and videos in dark settings, producing impressive results. While Night Sight video had some limitations, overall, the phone excelled in capturing nighttime moments with clarity.
Audio Quality
Despite its impressive camera capabilities, the Pixel 10 Pro XL fell short in terms of microphone quality, particularly in capturing distant sounds at a music festival. The phone’s microphones struggled to capture audio from a distance, resulting in muffled recordings that lacked the atmospheric quality of live performances.
Zoom Capabilities
The Pixel 10 Pro XL’s zoom capabilities were put to the test during festival performances. While the phone excelled in shorter zoom ranges, the digital zoom performance was limited, especially beyond 10x. The Pro Res Zoom feature, while innovative, had mixed results in enhancing distant subjects, making it more suitable for landscapes than live events.
Despite its shortcomings in certain areas, the Pixel 10 Pro XL proved to be a reliable companion at the Reading Festival, excelling in display quality, design, battery life, and most camera functions. While it may not be perfect for all photography needs, it offers a satisfying overall experience, making it a top choice in the smartphone market.
