General Timothy Haugh Fired from National Security Agency and US Cyber Command
Reports from The Washington Post have confirmed that General Timothy Haugh, the director of the National Security Agency and US Cyber Command, was dismissed from his position on Thursday. This decision came shortly after right-wing activist Laura Loomer advocated for his removal during a meeting with President Donald Trump.
Deputy Director Wendy Noble Also Let Go
Alongside General Haugh, Wendy Noble, the Deputy Director and senior civilian leader of the U.S. National Security Agency, has also been terminated. Sources from The New York Times suggest that Noble may have been reassigned to a different role within the Pentagon.
Allegations of Disloyalty to President Trump
Laura Loomer accused Haugh and Noble of being disloyal to President Trump, stating on X, “NSA Director Tim Haugh and his deputy Wendy Noble have been disloyal to President Trump. That is why they have been fired.” Loomer further claimed that Haugh was selected by General Mark Milley, who clashed with Trump during his previous term.
Haugh’s Background and Nomination
Former President Joe Biden nominated General Timothy Haugh in 2023. With over 30 years of military experience, Haugh previously led the Cyber Command’s Cyber National Mission Force.
Reactions from Democrats and Appointments of Successors
Members of the Intelligence Committee, particularly Democrats, expressed criticism over Haugh’s removal. Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) condemned the decision, highlighting the lack of accountability for leaked classified information. Representative Jim Himes (D-CT) also voiced his concerns, describing Haugh’s dismissal as deeply disturbing.
Lieutenant General William J. Hartman has been appointed as the acting director of the NSA, following Haugh’s departure. Sheila Thomas, the NSA executive director, has assumed the role of acting deputy, as reported by The Post.
