OpenAI Unveils Highly Anticipated GPT Store
OpenAI has officially launched the long-awaited GPT store, providing users with the opportunity to buy and sell various GPTs based on the company’s advanced language models.
This new platform serves as a marketplace for personalized AI applications, giving users access to a wide range of AI tools. Examples of customized applications showcased by OpenAI include Khan Academy’s Code Tutor for learning coding skills and Canva for designing presentations and social media posts.
According to a press release from OpenAI, the store features a diverse selection of GPTs created by partners and the community. In just the past two months, users have already developed over 3 million versions of GPTs, a number that is expected to grow significantly as more users create and publish their own GPTs online. Initially, the GPT Store is accessible to paid ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise users.
In the coming quarter, OpenAI plans to introduce the GPT builder revenue program, with U.S. developers set to receive compensation based on user engagement.
Similar to popular app stores like Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store, the GPT Store allows developers to monetize their creations while offering users easy access to a variety of AI services. Users can explore popular and trending GPTs on the community leaderboard, with categories ranging from DALL.E and writing to research, programming, education, and lifestyle.
By launching the GPT Store, OpenAI is expanding its ecosystem and introducing new revenue streams. The store will soon be available to ChatGPT Enterprises users, offering enhanced admin control for organizational use.
Catering to enterprise users, OpenAI has also introduced a new ChatGPT Team plan, providing users with a dedicated collaborative workspace.
Deepika Giri, associate vice president at IDC, believes that the GPT store will bring together a large community of users who have developed specialized versions of ChatGPT for various purposes. This platform not only facilitates open sharing but also allows users to monetize their creations. The ability to create specialized versions for public or private use gives users full control over their projects.
Despite initial delays due to leadership changes at OpenAI, the launch of the GPT Store marks another significant milestone in the evolution of AI technology. This new platform is set to democratize AI and pave the way for innovative use cases in the field.
