Pete Parsons Retires: A New Chapter for Bungie and Destiny

Pete Parsons, a seasoned figure in the gaming industry who has been at the helm of Bungie, the creator of Destiny, for the past ten years, revealed his decision to step down as CEO. This announcement, made on Thursday, marks the end of an era for Parsons and the Bellevue-based studio.

Pete Parsons, a prominent figure in the gaming industry, recently announced his departure as CEO of Bungie, the renowned studio behind the popular game Destiny. In a heartfelt statement on Bungie’s website, Parsons expressed his gratitude for the incredible journey he has had leading the studio.

“I am deeply proud of the worlds we’ve built together and the millions of players who call them home — and most of all I am privileged by the opportunity to work alongside the incredible minds at Bungie,” Parsons shared in his farewell message.

Justin Truman, a seasoned developer at Bungie who most recently held the position of chief development officer, will be stepping into the role of CEO following Parsons’ departure.

Having been with Bungie since 2002, Parsons played a pivotal role in the success of the studio, particularly during the various Halo releases. Under his leadership as CEO, Bungie achieved significant milestones such as the launch of Destiny 2 in 2017 and the studio’s acquisition by Sony for $3.6 billion in 2022.

Despite these successes, Bungie has faced its fair share of challenges in recent times, including a round of layoffs and the postponement of its upcoming game, Marathon.

With a workforce of approximately 670 employees in the Seattle region, Bungie remains a key player in the gaming industry. Prior to his tenure at Bungie, Parsons was a member of the original Xbox team at Microsoft and co-founded the Seattle-based advertising tech startup Meteor Solutions, which was later acquired by Covario in 2012.
