Analysis of Left-Leaning Social Media Accounts Joining Bluesky
Recently, many prominent left-leaning social media accounts have made the move to Bluesky, a new platform gaining traction in the digital sphere. A study conducted by the Pew Research Center sheds light on this shift and attempts to quantify the impact of Bluesky on news influencers.
Key Findings from Pew Research Center
The Pew Research Center revisited its news influencer report from November 2024 to include Bluesky in its analysis. The study focused on 500 influencers with large followings who actively engage in discussions about current events. The latest data reveals that 43% of these influencers had a presence on Bluesky in February/March, with a majority of accounts created after the 2024 presidential election.
Political Divide and Platform Loyalty
Notably, there is a significant disparity between left-leaning and right-leaning influencers in their adoption of Bluesky. While 69% of liberal influencers embraced the new platform, only 15% of conservative influencers followed suit. Despite this shift, most influencers have maintained a presence on X (formerly Twitter), with only a slight decrease in the number of accounts on the platform.
Growth and Engagement on Bluesky
Although many influencers continue to prioritize X for their online presence, there has been a noticeable increase in activity on Bluesky. The percentage of influencers actively posting on Bluesky rose from 54% in January to 66% in March, indicating a growing interest and engagement with the platform.
