In its recent white paper titled ‘2025 Data Center Year in Review,’ LandGate, a U.S.-based data intelligence provider for energy and infrastructure development, delves into how hyperscale expansion, AI demand, and power constraints have reshaped the global data center landscape. The report focuses on changes in the United States, highlighting the role of reliable power as a key competitive factor in the industry.

The white paper reveals that hyperscalers are driving the majority of new revenue commitments for capacity builds, leading to the emergence of “AI superfactories” designed for AI workloads. With global investment in AI integration and digital infrastructure projected to soar, the data center industry is expected to consume a significant amount of electricity by 2030, posing challenges in sourcing power efficiently.

As the industry experiences rapid growth, developers are turning to innovative infrastructure solutions such as modular power-skids and BTM energy strategies to overcome grid interconnection delays. Market dynamics are shifting, with secondary markets like Nevada, Arizona, and Ohio gaining prominence alongside traditional hubs like Texas and Virginia. However, community opposition, environmental concerns, and infrastructure gaps could potentially hinder future growth in the data center sector.
