By implementing this pioneering technology, OVHcloud aims to decrease water usage by up to 30% and lower cooling electricity consumption by up to 50%.

    Miroslaw Klaba, the R&D Director at OVHcloud, expressed excitement about the new generation of evaporative cooling solutions, including Smart Racks. These Smart Racks feature an integrated cooling loop design, paving the way for Smart Datacenters that utilize advanced technologies and artificial intelligence to address previously challenging equations in cooling technology.

    One of the key developments in this new technology is the fifth-generation OVHcloud server rack, which has been meticulously crafted over two years to accommodate the latest server technologies. This revision in server layout includes embedded clusters in series for improved cooling efficiency, streamlined component arrangements, and enhanced energy conservation at the rack level.

    The Smart Racks also leverage artificial intelligence for predictive maintenance and operational adjustments, based on real-time monitoring of critical parameters. By utilizing over 30 sensors, the compact cooling module efficiently cools several rack rows, extending equipment lifespan and optimizing power efficiency.

    Furthermore, the revamped Smart Dry Cooler, located externally, boasts a reduced size and fan count compared to previous models, resulting in a significant decrease in cooling power consumption and ambient noise levels. The Smart Racks also connect to local weather stations to achieve optimal water usage for adiabatic cooling pads, avoiding traditional recirculation systems and their complex components.

    OVHcloud’s commitment to sustainable cloud technology is evident in their vertically integrated model, which emphasizes responsible digital advancement. With over a hundred cooling patents under their belt, the R&D department at OVHcloud champions water cooling at scale, reinforcing the company’s reputation for industry-leading PUE and WUE metrics.

    In conclusion, OVHcloud’s new cooling technology is already in action at Roubaix, with plans for a comprehensive rollout across all OVHcloud facilities in the near future. This latest infrastructure rollout aligns with the company’s coalition pledge from February 2025, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to sustainability and technological innovation.
