OpenAI seems to have removed a highly discussed video featuring CEO Sam Altman and renowned Apple designer Jony Ive from their website and YouTube channel. This video was linked to OpenAI’s $6.5 billion acquisition of Ive and Altman’s device startup io.
Is there cause for concern regarding the acquisition or Ive’s role in leading design at OpenAI? Not necessarily, as per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who clarified that the deal is still progressing as planned. The removal of the video was due to a restraining order issued over the io name, rather than any issues with the acquisition.
A recent report from Bloomberg Law highlighted a trademark lawsuit filed by AI device maker IYO against OpenAI. The judge is considering IYO’s claim that OpenAI’s promotional video could be causing confusion among consumers.
TechCrunch has contacted OpenAI for a statement on the matter. At present, the video can still be viewed on X.
