Red Hat’s Latest Innovations in AI Technology
Red Hat is making strides in the world of artificial intelligence by embracing new technologies that have the potential to become industry standards. Two key technologies, released by commercial vendors last year, are now open source and gaining traction in the AI community.
Model Context Protocol (MCP)
One of these technologies is MCP, which allows AI systems and agents to communicate with various resources, tools, and data sources. Originally developed by Anthropic and open-sourced in late 2024, MCP has already been adopted by major tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, making it a promising contender for standardization in the industry.
Llama Stack vs. LangChain
Another noteworthy technology is Llama Stack, introduced by Meta in September 2024. This set of tools is designed for building, scaling, and deploying AI applications and agentic systems. While LangChain, an open source project dating back to 2022, has seen widespread adoption, Llama Stack’s backing by Meta adds significant credibility to its potential as an industry standard.
Although it’s too early to declare MCP and Llama Stack as the new norms in agentic AI, the support from Red Hat and other industry players is propelling these technologies forward. Forrester’s Dickerson notes that this support lends credibility and momentum to the adoption of these innovative tools.
Integration of AI in Red Hat Products
Red Hat is not only helping enterprises deploy their own AI solutions but also integrating AI capabilities into its own products. Recent developments include AI assistants and automation for setting up IT environments within Linux operating systems. This integration of AI technology into Red Hat’s offerings signifies a significant step towards making AI more accessible and impactful in various industries.
