Google Reports Decline in Zero-Day Vulnerabilities Exploited in 2024
According to Google’s Threat Intelligence Group, attackers targeted a total of 75 zero-day vulnerabilities in 2024. While this number marks a decrease from the previous year’s figure of 98, it still represents an increase compared to 2022 when 63 vulnerabilities were identified.
Google’s security experts categorized these vulnerabilities into two main groups: technologies commonly used by everyday users such as mobile phones, operating systems, and web browsers, and business-focused technologies including security software and specialized equipment.
The tech companies responsible for these products have made significant progress in addressing security flaws, making certain types of attacks more challenging to execute. However, commercial surveillance firms have also improved their tactics, making it harder to detect their activities.
