The Samsung Galaxy A17 5G has recently been spotted on a well-known benchmarking tool, revealing some key specifications of the upcoming budget smartphone. This leak suggests that the new model may address some of the issues seen in its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G.
According to a post by Abhishek Yadav on Geekbench, a phone identified as the Samsung SM-A176B, also known as the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G, has made an appearance. Despite the modest score of 942 single-core and 2137 multi-core, which is expected for a budget device that is still undergoing optimization, there are some exciting details to note.
Samsung Galaxy A17 performance and software
Of particular interest is the inclusion of an Exynos 1380 processor in the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G. While this is only a slight improvement over the Exynos 1330 found in the previous model, the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G, it is worth mentioning that this chip was previously used in the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G and the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G. This pattern suggests that Samsung continues to utilize older budget processors in its newer models.

Similar to the Galaxy A35 5G, the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is expected to come with 6GB of RAM, a significant 50% increase from its predecessor. While it may not be a powerhouse in terms of performance, the additional RAM should provide a smoother user experience compared to the Galaxy A16 5G.
The Geekbench listing also confirms that the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G will run on Android 15, featuring One UI 7 out of the box instead of the latest One UI 8.
Samsung Galaxy A17 specs
These details align with previous leaks from December that outlined the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy A17. One notable improvement is the inclusion of an 8MP ultra-wide camera, up from 5MP in the previous model.
Additionally, the main 50MP camera may receive optical image stabilization (OIS) for improved image quality, especially in low-light conditions. The possibility of 4K video recording being added is also exciting news for potential buyers.
