Amazon has entered the golf market with its own line of golf balls under the Amazon Basics brand. These golf balls, priced at $15.99 for a dozen, are aimed at providing an affordable option for golfers looking to save some money on their equipment. This move by Amazon has sparked curiosity among golf enthusiasts, prompting us to put these balls to the test to see how they perform on the course.
Upon receiving the Amazon Basics golf balls, we headed to the Evergreen Golf Club near Seattle to enlist the help of professional instructors Austin Nutt and Tyler Yee. In addition to the Amazon balls, we also brought along higher-end competitors, including the Taylormade TP5x and Titleist ProV1, to compare performance across different clubs.
Throughout the testing process, it became evident that the Taylormade and Titleist balls offered better distance and ball speeds compared to the Amazon Basics balls. The professionals noted that the Amazon balls felt softer, almost like hitting a “marshmallow,” which could impact control, especially on shorter shots around the green.
Despite the differences in performance, both Nutt and Yee acknowledged that the Amazon Basics golf balls could still be a viable option for some golfers, particularly beginners or high-handicap players. The durability of the Amazon balls was also noted, as they did not scuff as easily as the higher-end competitors.
Online reviews of the Amazon Basics golf balls have been positive, with many users praising the value and performance of these budget-friendly balls. With a 4.5-star rating from nearly 600 reviews on Amazon, it’s clear that these golf balls have struck a chord with consumers looking for an affordable yet reliable option.
While premium tour-level options may offer slight advantages, the Amazon Basics golf balls cater to a different market segment, focusing on affordability and durability. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer looking to save on equipment costs or a beginner just starting out, the Amazon Basics golf balls provide a compelling option that delivers on both price and performance.
