AI is increasingly being utilized in high-volume, repetitive tasks, with troubleshooting and log analysis being the top areas of deployment among sysadmins. The use of AI in these tasks has seen a significant increase since 2024.
In the next two years, vulnerability prioritization, monitoring of server CPU and memory utilization, detecting and remediating incidents, patch management processes, security controls and compliance analysis, performing post-incident reviews, providing IT staff with guidance and training, and troubleshooting are tasks that are most likely to be automated with AI.
Despite the growing adoption of AI, sysadmins still have concerns about falling behind peers and the technology’s shortcomings. Issues such as accuracy and reliability, data privacy and security risks, and fear of losing control over automated actions are some of the top reasons for hesitancy. Troubleshooting, log analysis, first-level IT support tasks, and support for IT staff are areas where AI is still struggling to meet expectations, with reports of failures and operational disruptions.
