The collaboration between OnePlus and renowned Swedish camera brand Hasselblad, which commenced with the OnePlus 9 series in 2021 and spanned five generations, has come to an end.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau announced in a message shared on the company’s forum that the upcoming flagship smartphone will no longer feature the Hasselblad brand for its camera system, as reported by 9to5Google.
The OnePlus 13 flagship, which underwent review in January, incorporated the fifth-generation Hasselblad camera setup to enhance camera functionalities compared to its predecessor, the OnePlus 12. This included a more compact and lighter Triprism Telephoto Lens, an enhanced portrait mode, and 4K Dolby Vision video recording capability with every camera.

Despite this, and despite our favorable review of the OnePlus 13, we found its camera system to fall short of top-tier performance. For those willing to invest in the Photography Kit, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra emerges as our top choice for the best camera phone. Alternatively, for unparalleled point-and-shoot photography, we recommend the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that OnePlus has opted to go in a different direction. The smartphone manufacturer will now concentrate on its proprietary camera technology. Dubbed the OnePlus DetailMax Engine, it has been designed from scratch to provide enhanced clarity and detail.
According to the company, the system is tailored based on user input and places a strong emphasis on computational photography. Lau assures users of “unmatched depth and realism,” although the exact comparison with Hasselblad cameras remains to be seen.
Rumors suggest that OnePlus will also depart from its signature round camera module on the rear side.
The forthcoming OnePlus 15 will be the first flagship to feature the DetailMax Engine and, as per leaked specifications, will boast an upgraded 85mm telephoto lens.
OnePlus has already released a set of initial samples from the new camera phone (shared by GizmoChina) to exhibit the telephoto capabilities of the device. As anticipated from images shared by the brand, there is remarkable detail rendition and vivid colors. However, the true test will be when we have the opportunity to experience it firsthand, and we are eagerly anticipating this opportunity.

The OnePlus 15 is anticipated to debut in China by October 2025, followed by launches in India and global markets in early 2026, with a global unveiling at CES.
