President Donald Trump has announced that a group of affluent individuals is in the process of acquiring the popular short-form video app TikTok.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Trump revealed, “We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way. I think I’ll need probably China’s approval. I think President Xi [Jinping] will probably do it.”
While Trump did not disclose the identities of the buyers, he hinted that he would unveil them in two weeks, which seems to be his preferred timeframe for such announcements.
The bill mandating ByteDance to sell TikTok in the U.S. or face a ban has faced multiple delays from Trump. Initially proposing a joint venture with U.S. ownership, he later considered potential buyers like Larry Ellison and Elon Musk, with Musk now appearing less likely to acquire the app.
