As the resurgence of startup hustle culture gains momentum, with tech founders embracing the grueling 996 work schedule, a new trend emerges – using AI to fabricate vacation photos. This seemingly dystopian practice allows individuals to create fake images of themselves enjoying leisurely activities in exotic locations, all while navigating the demands of a relentless work ethic.
And yet, here we are.
Product designer Laurent Del Rey, a recent addition to Meta’s Superintelligence Lab, has introduced a unique side project named Endless Summer. This innovative photobooth app for iPhones utilizes AI technology to generate vacation photos featuring the user in various picturesque settings worldwide. Whether strolling along a beach or admiring a European cityscape, the app creates a facade of relaxation and enjoyment, far removed from the stresses of the entrepreneurial world.
The photos produced by Endless Summer depict a carefree existence, devoid of discussions on AI advancements or the perils of overwork.
Del Rey shared his motivation for developing the app on X, emphasizing its role in helping individuals combat burnout and manifest a more tranquil lifestyle. In his own words, Endless Summer offers a reprieve when “burnout hits and you need to manifest the soft life u deserve.”
(When reality falls short, why not fabricate it?)
