WhatsApp Web App Enhancements: Introducing Video and Voice Calls
SHARE
WhatsApp has recently introduced the ability to make video and voice calls directly from its web application. This update is especially beneficial for Linux users who previously lacked a dedicated WhatsApp app on their platform. The new feature ensures that all calls made through the web app are end-to-end encrypted for enhanced security. Additionally, future enhancements may include group calls for up to 32 participants, screen sharing, and call scheduling features, although these features are still in beta testing.

WhatsApp has announced the rollout of video and voice call support on its web platform. Previously, users were required to download a separate application to access these features on a larger screen. However, with the latest update, individuals can now initiate calls directly from their web browser. This development marks a significant step towards enhancing the user experience and accessibility of WhatsApp’s services.

The beta version of the WhatsApp web app now includes the option for users to engage in individual chats and make voice and video calls. This functionality allows for seamless communication without the need for a dedicated application. The introduction of group calls with a capacity of up to 32 participants is also anticipated, along with additional features like call links and scheduled calls.

Furthermore, users will have the ability to utilize the Screen Share feature during web calls, enabling real-time sharing of screen content with other participants. Despite concerns about security, all calls made through the web app are end-to-end encrypted by default, ensuring the confidentiality of conversations.

The absence of a dedicated WhatsApp app for Linux users has been a longstanding issue, making the new web calling capabilities particularly valuable for this user base. While the expanded features are currently available to beta program participants, the official release date for all users remains undisclosed.

Overall, the introduction of video and voice calls on the WhatsApp web app signals a positive development for the platform. This update follows previous announcements regarding the integration of advertising into the service, with users potentially facing a subscription fee to access an ad-free experience in the future.
