In a significant move for Canada’s quantum technology industry, Xanadu, a Toronto-based photonic quantum computing company, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art $10 million photonic packaging facility at its headquarters. This facility is poised to revolutionize the production of fault-tolerant quantum computers in Canada by providing end-to-end, ultra-low-loss photonic packaging capabilities that are crucial for quantum hardware manufacturing.
The newly launched facility not only supports Xanadu’s internal hardware development but also welcomes external users, including academic researchers, startups, and commercial entities working on next-generation photonic and quantum devices. Canadian Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, Evan Solomon, hailed the facility as a milestone in Canadian innovation, emphasizing the country’s commitment to leading the global quantum technology race and strengthening its domestic quantum supply chain.
Xanadu’s CEO, Christian Weedbrook, highlighted the strategic importance of the facility in positioning Canada as a global hub for quantum technology innovation. By investing in high-performance photonic packaging capacity domestically, Canada aims to reduce reliance on international suppliers and enhance expertise in packaging, electronics, cryogenics, and control systems, aligning with national priorities to secure long-term leadership in the emerging quantum economy.
