Xiaomi Power Bank Safety Alert: Fire Hazard Recall Issued
SHARE
Xiaomi recently announced a recall for a specific model of its power bank due to a potential fire hazard caused by a faulty component. The affected product is the Xiaomi 33W Power Bank 20000mAh with integrated cable, available in Blue and Tan variants. Customers are advised to check their product’s serial number on Xiaomi’s support page to determine if their device is part of the defective batch.

Xiaomi has issued a recall notice for one of its power bank products, with a faulty component potentially presenting a fire hazard.

Over on Xiaomi’s support page, as well asthe UK government’s Product Safety Alerts website, a recall notice has been issued for the Xiaomi 33W Power Bank 20000mAh with integrated cable, which comes in Blue and Tan variants. The warning text reads:

“In response to issues identified with certain raw materials from suppliers, a small batch of Xiaomi 33W Power Bank 20000mAh (Integrated Cable) (model: PB2030MI) manufactured between August and September 2024 may experience malfunctions under certain usage scenarios, potentially resulting in battery overheating, which could pose a fire hazard”.

The UK government states that “The product presents a risk of fire as the lithium-ion batteries can overheat whilst in use.”

Xiaomi’s returns process

According to Xiaomi, the number of reported incidents is small, but the company wishes to “ensure high product quality standards”.

If you have one of these power banks, head to the aforementioned Xiaomi page and enter your product’s SN code in the field provided. Xiaomi provides some handy illustrations to demonstrate where that SN code might be situated, but it’s generally on the back of the power bank.

In more positive Xiaomi news, it’s been confirmed that the company’s next flagship phone, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, is being announced on Christmas Day. Yes, you read that right.

Expect a slimmed-down design and a monstrous camera module.
