Inspired, a prominent player in the commercial energy and sustainability sector in the UK, has achieved a remarkable feat by finalizing a historic tri-party corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with VIRTUS Data Centres and Lynn and Inner Dowsing (LID) windfarms. This agreement is a major milestone in advancing VIRTUS Data Centres’ sustainability objectives, showcasing their commitment to renewable energy sources.
As part of this innovative agreement, VIRTUS Data Centres has committed to a substantial power purchase agreement of 31MW, equivalent to 16% of the total output from LID offshore windfarms. This long-term arrangement is set to commence on 1st October 2025, ensuring a consistent and reliable supply of renewable energy for VIRTUS Data Centres.
The concept of a CPPA, a long-term energy contract between a corporate entity and a renewable energy generator, is gaining traction in the business world. These agreements are becoming increasingly popular as they enable businesses to achieve their net-zero targets by sourcing up to 100% renewable power. By tracing the energy back to specific projects such as wind or solar farms, companies can ensure a greener and more sustainable operation.
Inspired has played a pivotal role as VIRTUS Data Centres’ energy consultant, facilitating the successful initiation of this new sustainable journey. Through their partnership, VIRTUS Data Centres can continue to leverage renewable power directly for their data centers, further solidifying their commitment to environmental sustainability.
Helen Kinsman, Senior Vice President of Commercial and Regulatory Affairs at VIRTUS, emphasized the company’s dedication to minimizing the environmental impact of their data center facilities by procuring power from 100% renewable sources since 2011.
The renewable power sourced from Lynn and Inner Dowsing (LID) offshore windfarms, managed by funds from Macquarie Asset Management and backed by XceCo Ltd, will play a crucial role in powering VIRTUS Data Centres’ operations sustainably.
Bailey Bradley, Managing Director of XceCo, commended the collaborative efforts that led to the successful implementation of this CPPA, highlighting the synergy created through a shared vision and commitment to sustainability.
In addition to this groundbreaking agreement, Inspired offers a range of services to VIRTUS Data Centres, further solidifying their position as a trusted energy consultant dedicated to enhancing sustainability practices in the commercial sector.
