ABB has recently formed a significant partnership with VoltaGrid, a leading microgrid power generation company in the United States. This collaboration involves supplying 27 synchronous condensers along with prefabricated eHouse units to enhance grid stability and meet the increasing energy demands driven by the emergence of artificial intelligence.

With the world on the brink of a digital revolution, the energy consumption of data centers is expected to double by 2030. ABB is dedicated to providing cutting-edge, energy-efficient technologies to data center operators, ensuring long-term reliability. The upcoming AI infrastructure facilities by VoltaGrid will greatly benefit from this strategic partnership.

The technological package offered by ABB includes synchronous condensers equipped with flywheel and advanced automation systems. These units, designed for quick deployment, provide crucial inertia and reactive power stability essential for seamless electricity generation, ultimately improving grid stability across VoltaGrid’s projects.

The initial units are scheduled for delivery starting December 2025, with operational units expected by April 2026. This marks a significant milestone in fortifying U.S. data center infrastructures against the rising energy demands.

Data centers have become crucial players in the global economy, consuming substantial amounts of power, particularly in the U.S. By 2030, it is projected that U.S. data centers may surpass manufacturing in electricity consumption for processing data. Hence, robust and reliable power systems are imperative.

This collaboration between ABB and VoltaGrid comes at a pivotal moment, ensuring data centers are well-equipped to handle evolving energy demands fueled by AI advancements. Through ABB’s integrated solutions, data centers can achieve improved energy efficiency and operational effectiveness while mitigating potential grid challenges.
