Embracing the Shift: The Emergence of Private and Sovereign Cloud Computing

In the foreseeable future, Gartner anticipates that over half of enterprises will implement digital sovereign strategies by 2029. This strategic approach focuses on maintaining national control over data and critical systems, marking a substantial increase from current adoption rates of less than 10%. Sovereign clouds will be instrumental in these strategies, facilitating the transition to cloud-based systems while ensuring compliance with sovereignty regulations.

Unlike traditional public clouds, sovereign clouds empower enterprises to retain ownership and oversight of their assets without exposing them to the vulnerabilities of a public cloud environment. This shift provides a layer of protection for enterprise IT assets, shielding them from external threats and geopolitical risks.

The growing preference for private and sovereign clouds seems to contradict the widespread adoption of public cloud services over the past decade. So, what is driving this shift in mindset among companies?
