IBM has made significant advancements in quantum computing technology over the years. With their latest quantum computer boasting 156 qubits, they are now able to run real quantum circuits to tackle complex problems in artificial intelligence, material simulation, and model emergence.

The Basque Government’s BasQ program focuses on three main areas: advancing quantum technology, improving material behavior for practical applications like aircraft suspension, and enhancing precision and control in scientific endeavors like time crystals.

When deciding to implement their second Quantum System Two in the Basque Country, IBM considered factors like technological expertise, workforce talent, research ecosystem, and industrial capabilities. The Basque region stood out due to its existing supercomputing facilities, scientific policies, talent retention strategies, and expertise in digital technologies.

In Germany, IBM operates a quantum data center to serve organizations in need of remote computing services. In San Sebastián and Kobe (Japan), IBM houses System Two machines with a 156-qubit Heron processor, while in the United States, they are working on developing a fault-tolerant quantum system slated for completion in 2029.
