In his article, Sadiq Syed, SVP Digital Buildings at Schneider Electric, emphasizes the importance of maximizing the performance of existing data centres to meet the growing energy demands of AI technologies. With the increasing consumption of electricity by data centres, fueled by the expansion of AI models, the need for efficient energy management is more pressing than ever.

The scarcity of available energy poses a significant challenge to the sustainable progress of AI technologies. While countries are investing in new energy infrastructure, such projects take years to make a substantial impact. In the meantime, data centre operators must focus on optimizing their existing facilities to bridge the gap between AI’s demands and available power resources.

Efficiency is key to addressing the energy requirements of AI. By improving energy management in data centres, operators can reduce waste and lower costs, while also meeting regulatory and environmental obligations. Embracing AI technology can empower engineers to identify efficiency opportunities and prevent downtime, ultimately enhancing the overall performance of data centres.
