Vodafone Greece is planning to implement a dual-route connectivity solution between HER1 and its cable landing station in Tympaki, southern Crete, to improve capacity and resilience. These routes will serve as vital backhaul services for major subsea cables landing in Crete, seamlessly connecting to the HER1 data center.
The partnership will also strengthen connectivity between Chania and Heraklion through Vodafone Greece’s terrestrial network, boosting infrastructure for global cloud service providers, enterprises, ISPs, content delivery networks, and carriers. This collaboration complements Vodafone Greece’s existing connectivity services between Athens and Crete, providing redundant peering options on both national and local scales.
Alexandros Bechrakis, Managing Director at Digital Realty in Greece, expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the impact it will have on Crete’s digital infrastructure. By supporting landing cables and enhancing regional connectivity, the partnership aims to position Crete as a strategic digital hub in Southern Europe and beyond.
