Alibaba Cloud is set to open its second data center in South Korea by the end of June 2025 to meet the increasing demand for cloud computing and AI services from local businesses. This move comes three years after the establishment of the first data center in 2022, showcasing Alibaba Cloud’s ongoing commitment to investing in South Korea and promoting AI transformation among local enterprises.

Alibaba Cloud’s decision to launch a second data center in South Korea reflects its dedication to meeting the rising demand for AI infrastructure, driven by the growing adoption of generative AI services in the country. This expansion also signifies a significant step in Alibaba Cloud’s efforts to diversify its offerings in South Korea, with a focus on providing a wider range of cloud-native, big data, and database products to better support customers’ AI applications. The new data center will bring enhancements in cloud resilience, network performance, and capabilities for high availability and disaster recovery of core cloud products.

Yoon Yong-joon, Country Manager of South Korea at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, emphasized the importance of this expansion in line with the rapid advancements in AI technologies and increasing digital demands across industries. He stated, “Through the launch of this second data center, Alibaba Cloud will provide customers with more resilient and adaptable cloud environments, ultimately fostering AI innovation across various sectors and expanding the digital ecosystem.”

Building a Stronger Local Ecosystem Together with Partners and Customers

Since entering the South Korean market in 2016, Alibaba Cloud has been offering scalable, secure, and cost-effective services to drive digital transformation across various industries in the country. By leveraging Alibaba Cloud’s flagship large language model Qwen and global cloud infrastructure, companies like Univa have been able to deliver innovative solutions tailored to the Korean market’s specific needs.

This collaboration has enabled Snow to offer users a personalized portrait stylization experience, showcasing the potential of AI technologies in enhancing user engagement and satisfaction.

Lala Station, a prominent Korean livestreaming company, expanded its business into the Southeast Asian market through a collaboration with Alibaba Cloud, leveraging advanced cloud technologies and e-commerce livestreaming solutions. This partnership has enabled Lala Station to scale its operations globally and enhance audience engagement across diverse markets.

These partnerships aim to provide scalable hybrid and multi-cloud solutions tailored to the evolving needs of businesses in the region, further solidifying Alibaba Cloud’s position as a leading IaaS service provider in Asia Pacific.
