Apple has officially announced the arrival of the new AirTag tracker, following much speculation in the tech world. The latest iteration, simply called the ‘new AirTag’, boasts several enhancements over its predecessor, making it a compelling upgrade option, especially for frequent travelers.
Apple has chosen to christen the latest iteration of its AirTag as the ‘new AirTag’, opting for a fresh moniker rather than the expected ‘AirTag 2’. Despite the naming convention, the physical appearance of the new AirTag remains unchanged from the original version. However, it comes equipped with a host of improvements that set it apart.
For users who are constantly on the move, there are three standout reasons to consider upgrading to the latest AirTag model, which was initially launched in 2021.
Enhanced Precision & Extended Range
The new AirTag offers improved functionality for locating your belongings, whether it’s keys, a bag, or any other item. This enhancement is made possible by the inclusion of an Ultra Wideband chip, present in devices like the iPhone 17 series and Apple Watch Ultra 3, along with an upgraded Bluetooth chip. As a result, users can now track items from distances up to 50% farther than was previously possible.

Precision Finding features provide guidance to help pinpoint the location of an item through a combination of haptic, visual, and audio feedback mechanisms. Additionally, for the first time, Precision Finding functionality within the Find My app is accessible on the Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Ultra 2 or later.
Enhanced Audio Output
In terms of audio capabilities, the AirTag 2 offers double the volume of its predecessor, ensuring that locating the device becomes a more audibly distinct experience. Featuring a new, distinctive chime, Apple claims that the sound can now be heard from distances twice as far as before.
Advanced Security Features
Apple emphasizes that the latest AirTag model comes equipped with a set of pioneering safeguards against unauthorized tracking, including cross-platform notifications and dynamic Bluetooth identifiers that change regularly. Furthermore, the device is designed from the ground up to safeguard the privacy of location data, with a focus on preventing potential breaches and ensuring robust security measures.
Pricing for the New AirTag
The newly launched AirTag (2026) is now available for purchase at the same price point as its predecessor. Customers can acquire a single AirTag for £29/$29 or opt for a four-pack at £99/$99, with the added option of complimentary personalized engraving.
