In a recent announcement, European data center operator Apto revealed plans to invest €3 billion in a groundbreaking digital infrastructure project in Greater Milan. The project aims to establish the largest data center campus in Italy, spanning an impressive 228,000 square meters in Lacchiarella.
This next-generation data center campus is designed to support high-performance cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads, and digital transformation efforts throughout Italy. With a planned capacity of 300 MVA, Apto’s project highlights the company’s increasing role in delivering hyperscale infrastructure across Europe’s dynamic markets.
The Lacchiarella site, strategically located for industrial development, offers proximity to key network nodes and abundant connectivity options, including access to global submarine cable systems. The project also emphasizes sustainable practices, targeting LEED Gold certification and incorporating rooftop solar arrays to support renewable energy goals. Apto’s investment comes at a critical time for Italy as the country strives to meet the EU’s Digital Decade targets by 2030, positioning the Lacchiarella campus as a key player in supporting Italy’s digital roadmap.
