Carbon3.ai to Transform Legacy Industrial Sites into Low-Carbon Data Centers
Carbon3.ai has unveiled a £1 billion initiative to repurpose outdated industrial and energy facilities into a network of cutting-edge, low-carbon data centers equipped with artificial intelligence capabilities.
The company is set to construct a bespoke compute network within the UK, offering high-performance, eco-friendly computing services for businesses, research institutions, and public sector organizations. By keeping all infrastructure and data processing operations within the country, Carbon3.ai aims to ensure compliance with domestic regulations and provide a secure data environment.
Following a successful proof of concept, Carbon3.ai is preparing for a full-scale launch starting with a 5MW site in the East Midlands. Additional sites are in the pipeline, with plans already in motion for a second facility in Derbyshire. To spearhead its strategic expansion, the company has appointed Sana Khareghani, former Head of the UK Government Office for Artificial Intelligence, as Chief Strategy Officer.
