Cisco has introduced the groundbreaking Unified Edge Platform, a comprehensive solution that integrates compute, networking, storage, and security to support real-time AI inferencing and agentic workloads at the edge. This platform addresses the infrastructure constraints that have necessitated AI workloads to be processed as close to the data source as possible, a crucial requirement for various industries such as retail, healthcare, and manufacturing.
The Unified Edge Platform offers a modular and scalable architecture with customizable CPU/GPU configurations, high-performance SD-WAN capabilities, and seamless zero-touch deployment for streamlined operations. Cisco’s President and Chief Product Officer, Jeetu Patel, emphasized the need for infrastructure that can handle the scale of AI, stating that as AI agents and experiences become more prevalent, they will need to operate closer to where decisions are made, such as branch offices, retail stores, and factory floors.
Furthermore, the platform incorporates multi-layered zero-trust security measures to protect AI environments from both physical and cyber threats, ensuring the safety and integrity of traditional and AI workloads. Cisco collaborated with various stakeholders to design a system that meets the diverse needs of complex environments and industry requirements. The Unified Edge Platform is now available for ordering, with full availability expected by the end of the year.
Cisco recently partnered with SiMa.ai to deliver real-time AI solutions at the industrial edge, further showcasing their commitment to advancing AI capabilities in various sectors.
