The shutdown of Dropbox Passwords will be carried out in phases. Starting on August 28th, the tool will only be accessible in a view-only mode on the mobile app and browser extension, preventing users from adding new information. Autofill functionality will also be disabled at this time. By September 11th, the mobile app will cease to function entirely. Finally, on October 28th, Dropbox Passwords will be permanently discontinued, with all stored data being securely deleted from the company’s servers.
The decision to end Dropbox Passwords is part of Dropbox’s strategy to focus on enhancing its core product features. The password manager was introduced in 2020 following the acquisition of Valt in 2019.
