Billy Evans, Partner of Elizabeth Holmes, Ventures into Health Optimization Startup
Reports from The New York Times reveal that Billy Evans, the partner of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, is embarking on a new startup focused on delivering “human health optimization” through innovative blood testing methods.
Investors who were approached by Evans to pitch in for the startup, known as Haemanthus, were given insights into the company’s vision. Additionally, The Times had the opportunity to review some of Haemanthus’ marketing materials.
Haemanthus claims to have developed cutting-edge technology utilizing lasers to analyze blood, saliva, and urine samples for early detection of cancer and infections. The startup plans to initially target the pet health sector before transitioning to human health services. In order to kickstart its operations, Haemanthus is aiming to secure more than $50 million in funding.
The concept behind Haemanthus bears resemblance to Theranos’ approach, which also aimed to revolutionize medical testing by conducting a wide range of tests using minimal blood samples obtained through finger pricks. Despite facing legal repercussions, Holmes remains dedicated to her mission of providing accessible healthcare solutions to the masses.
Jim Breyer, an early investor in Facebook, disclosed that his team was approached for investment opportunities in Haemanthus but opted out due to concerns similar to those they had with Theranos in the past.
