Reinforcing their sustainability goals, Digital Realty has partnered with Soltage, an Independent Power Producer based in the US, to expand their solar energy portfolio in Illinois. This collaboration is set to bring about the development of 33.5MWdc of community solar projects, with Digital Realty utilizing 13.4MWdc to enhance the local grid infrastructure.
This initiative not only demonstrates Digital Realty’s environmental stewardship but also showcases their support for clean energy initiatives in the region. The upcoming solar projects are expected to not only benefit the environment but also contribute to the local economy by creating approximately 88 new job opportunities.
Building on their past achievements, where Digital Realty matched the electricity consumption of its 11 data centers in Illinois with renewable and carbon-free sources, these new projects in Lake, Will, and Stephenson counties aim to further strengthen their commitment to sustainable energy practices. Currently, a significant 75% of Digital Realty’s global data centers operate using renewable energy sources, underscoring their commitment to environmentally friendly operations worldwide.
By aligning with local and global clean energy solutions, Digital Realty is actively pursuing its sustainability goals, which include reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 68% and Scope 3 emissions by 24% by 2030. Through supporting clean energy innovations and facilitating low-carbon transitions, Digital Realty is not only focusing on operational efficiency but also contributing to a sustainable future for the communities they serve.
