The initiatives introduced by ST Telemedia Global Data Centres are in line with national goals to support recent graduates in a challenging job market. By focusing on essential skills for advanced power and digital infrastructure, these initiatives play a crucial role in leveraging AI-ready data centers while also addressing the broader energy landscape. Ms. Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade & Industry, emphasized the importance of these initiatives during the unveiling event.
The FutureGrid Accelerator, based at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) and developed in collaboration with LITEON, showcases the utilization of HVDC for AI workloads. This innovative setup is poised to revolutionize data center architecture, promoting resilience and reducing energy consumption as Singapore moves towards sustainable energy solutions.
Unlike traditional AC systems, HVDC offers numerous benefits such as energy savings and a reduced environmental footprint. It can lead to up to 30% lower energy consumption and a 400-ton reduction in CO2 emissions per megawatt annually. Furthermore, its compatibility with renewable energy sources enhances its appeal, enabling support for ultra-high-density racks at lower costs.
STT GDC has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore Polytechnic (SP), NTU, and the National University of Singapore (NUS). These collaborations are expected to benefit over 8,000 Singaporeans, fostering skill development in AI infrastructure and sustainable energy systems.
- Internship Placements: STT GDC will provide internship opportunities in data center operations across ITE, SP, NTU, and NUS, with industry mentors guiding students over a five-year period.
- Curriculum Development: Working with ITE, customized courses will focus on data center operations and sustainability, catering to approximately 800 ITE students annually.
- Environmental Leadership: Collaboration with SP will highlight sustainable practices through joint exploration of green technologies and initiatives promoting eco-friendly solutions.
These initiatives underscore STT GDC’s commitment to nurturing a pipeline of industry-ready professionals.
