OpenAI has announced a special promotion for users in India, offering its ChatGPT Go plan for free for one year. This limited-time offer starts on November 4 and aims to expand OpenAI’s presence in one of its key markets.
On Tuesday, OpenAI revealed the details of this promotion, extending the free 12-month plan to both new and existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India.
Initially launched in India in August at a price of less than $5 per month, ChatGPT Go has become OpenAI’s most affordable paid subscription plan. Following its success in India, the service has expanded to Indonesia and 16 other Asian countries.
India, with its massive population of smartphone users and internet subscribers, has been a strategic market for OpenAI. The company recently opened an office in New Delhi and is actively growing its local team to enhance its presence in the region.
Despite being the company’s second-largest market globally, OpenAI has faced challenges in monetizing ChatGPT’s paid plans in India. The app garnered millions of downloads but struggled to generate significant revenue from in-app purchases.
ChatGPT Go offers enhanced features compared to the free version, including increased usage limits for generating responses, creating images, and uploading files. Additionally, it boasts improved memory for delivering more personalized responses, as highlighted by OpenAI.
Nick Turley, vice president and head of ChatGPT, expressed excitement about the user adoption and creativity observed since the launch of ChatGPT Go in India. He looks forward to witnessing the innovative projects and accomplishments that users will achieve with these tools.
