Tech company Huawei has introduced innovative AI infrastructure aimed at enhancing computing power and strengthening its competition with chipmaker Nvidia.
During its Huawei Connect conference keynote in Shenzhen, China, Huawei unveiled its new SuperPoD Interconnect technology capable of connecting up to 15,000 graphics cards, including Huawei’s Ascend AI chips, to boost compute power.
This technology presents a challenge to Nvidia’s NVLink infrastructure, which enables rapid communication between AI chips.
For Huawei to effectively compete with semiconductor giants like Nvidia, advancements in technology are crucial. While Huawei’s AI chips may not match the power of Nvidia’s, clustering them together will provide users with increased compute power necessary for AI system training and scaling.
The announcement follows China’s recent ban on domestic tech firms purchasing Nvidia hardware, including the RTX Pro 600D servers tailored for the Chinese market.
