The Australian government has allocated $120 million to fund a submarine cable project for Papua New Guinea, with Google leading the initiative. This project is part of the Pukpuk Treaty, a new defense agreement between the two countries.

Peter Tsiamalili, the acting minister for information and communications technology in Papua New Guinea, announced that the project will involve two cables providing connectivity to both northern and southern regions of the country, as well as a third cable to Bougainville, an autonomous territory.
