The UK Government recently announced the launch of the Regional Tech Booster programme, which aims to support tech ecosystems and create jobs across various regions in the UK. With a £1 million budget, the initiative will provide funding for training, mentoring, network-building, and scaling support, managed by the UK Tech Cluster Group (UKTCG).
The programme includes fourteen flagship projects, such as supporting gaming start-ups in Scotland, establishing pathways from education to entrepreneurship in Lancashire, and promoting AI innovation in Wales. These projects aim to diversify the tech industry outside of London and ensure that the benefits of the UK’s tech economy reach all communities.
Industry experts have highlighted the importance of strong data foundations for regional tech initiatives to achieve sustainable AI benefits. They emphasize the need for founders and businesses to develop core data skills, implement data quality and governance practices, and prioritize responsible AI deployment. Collaboration between government, educators, and industry is crucial for building long-term frameworks that support regional skills pipelines and ensure inclusive, reliable, and future-ready innovation across the UK.
