Pune-based NES Data has recently introduced edge and containerized data centers to enhance data accessibility across India, focusing on smaller cities and remote areas. Umesh Sahay, the founder of NES, envisions these advancements as pivotal in democratizing data access, fostering low-latency and high-efficiency solutions for India’s AI-first digital ecosystem, particularly in Tier II cities and remote regions.
Additionally, NES plans to expand its total data center capacity in India to over 100MW by 2024, aiming to streamline data center construction and management through automation and digital tools to enhance cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
Progress in Ghaziabad
Construction has commenced on a new data center site in Ghaziabad, near New Delhi, which is set to offer 30MW of capacity and will be operated by ESDS. The power supply for this facility will be sourced from Central Electronics Limited, a public-sector solar energy provider.
ESDS currently manages four data centers in India, spanning a total area of 60,000 square feet across Punjab, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
Gujarat’s Cable Landing Station Initiatives
Gujarat is in talks to establish its first cable landing station (CLS), with discussions ongoing between the state government and various companies, including Reliance Industries. Plans are being considered for multiple CLSs in the Saurashtra and South Gujarat regions.
India currently houses 17 CLSs in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Kochi, with key operators including Tata Communications, Reliance Jio, and Bharti Airtel. Gujarat’s IT/ITES policy (2022–2027) offers incentives to support CLS development, encompassing assistance with land acquisition, infrastructure development, and electricity subsidies.
