IBM and Oracle Collaborate to Enhance AI Capabilities

IBM has announced an extensive collaboration with Oracle to expand its AI initiatives. The tech giant will be integrating its Watsonx AI tools into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), with the primary goal of simplifying the deployment and management of AI agents for businesses.

AI agents, which are software tools that execute tasks based on user commands, are increasingly being adopted in various industries to streamline processes and minimize manual efforts. By introducing Watsonx on OCI, IBM aims to cater to the rising demand for AI integration in enterprise operations.

Introducing Watsonx Orchestrate

One of the initial offerings resulting from this collaboration is Watsonx Orchestrate. This tool enables users to orchestrate workflows involving multiple agents across different systems, including non-Oracle applications. The feature is expected to be accessible on OCI starting from July.

IBM’s Orchestrate agents will seamlessly integrate with several of Oracle’s AI services, such as the Oracle AI Agent Studio for Fusion Applications and OCI Generative AI Agents. These agents are designed to extend the functionality of third-party and custom applications, with an initial focus on optimizing human resources tasks like onboarding.

Deployment and Accessibility

Orchestrate agents will run on Red Hat OpenShift on OCI, making them suitable for deployment in public, sovereign, government, and Oracle Alloy regions that require stringent privacy and regulatory compliance. These agents can be deployed on-premise or across multiple cloud environments.

Additionally, IBM’s Granite models, a series of smaller open-source AI models tailored for specific tasks, will be integrated into OCI’s AI Quick Actions later this year. These models are optimized for efficiency and utilize less computing power compared to larger, multi-purpose models. Oracle will host cached versions to enhance response times and minimize startup delays.

Expanding Environmental Data Collection

IBM’s Envizi ESG Suite, designed for collecting and reporting environmental, social, and governance data, will also be available on Oracle infrastructure. The initial rollout is scheduled for Saudi Arabia within the next year.

Furthermore, IBM is extending its consulting services to assist customers in setting up and scaling AI agents on Oracle platforms, whether they are native Oracle AI agents or Watsonx Orchestrate. Consultation services will also be provided for migrating services from on-premise setups to Red Hat OpenShift on OCI.

Long-standing Partnership

IBM’s consulting division brings decades of experience working with Oracle’s technology, with the two companies collaborating for nearly 40 years.
