Provident Data Centers Welcomes Jack Backes as Principal Strategist
Provident Data Centers, a division of the Dallas-based investment and real estate company Provident, has named Jack Backes as its new Principal Strategist. With a strong background in data center infrastructure and real estate development, Backes will play a key role in driving strategic growth as the company expands to meet the growing demand for advanced digital infrastructure.
Leon Backes, CEO and founder of Provident, expressed his excitement about Jack’s appointment, stating, “Jack’s extensive experience in data center system engineering and his forward-thinking approach will be invaluable as we move into our next phase of nationwide expansion.” In his new role, Jack will lead sales and partnership initiatives with a focus on innovation, drawing on his expertise in data centers, software engineering, and real estate.
Jack Backes commented on his vision for Provident, emphasizing the importance of leveraging real estate expertise alongside cutting-edge data center infrastructure to address the evolving needs of digital workloads. He highlighted the company’s focus on site selection, power connectivity, and scalability in response to the increasing demand for AI and high-density computing solutions.
Prior to joining Provident, Jack held senior positions at leading tech firms, including LinkedIn, where he managed a global fleet of servers and led a significant cloud migration project to Microsoft Azure. He also founded successful ventures in real estate technology and digital products, earning recognition for his innovative contributions to the industry.
Looking ahead, Jack sees promising opportunities in the emerging “Neocloud” sector, which focuses on AI cloud computing. He emphasized the critical role of this niche in meeting the growing demand for AI technologies. Provident plans to provide data center solutions with varying power availability to cater to the needs of hyperscalers and mid-scale businesses.
Passionate about innovative power systems and national security, Jack advocates for nuclear and battery technologies to support U.S. leadership in digital infrastructure. As a board member of the Texas Nuclear Alliance, he actively promotes policies that advance AI and nuclear innovation, collaborating with industry experts to explore integrating nuclear energy into critical infrastructure.
Currently pursuing a Master’s in Data Center Systems Engineering at Southern Methodist University, Jack is conducting research on next-generation power systems to drive innovation in national security, infrastructure, and energy. His expertise positions Provident at the forefront of these critical areas.
